Hi, I have joined the community because I am interested in getting into this Re-Enactment lark.

I was recently at an event organised by the Union at work and there was a display from 'Knights in Battle'.. However, as I know a few people who are involved with 'The Nevilles' I thught this would be a better place to start my journey back in time. ;)

Any help, advice, severe beatings to thicken my skin would be more than welcome.

Never say being a timewasting net surfer has no benefits - whilst carefully avoiding work I found these pictures from the Huntingdon Medieval Festival in the summer. I don't know whether anyone's seen this site and/or these pictures before, but they're worth a look. The site itself has pictures from lots of events - I've just picked out the ones with the cute men in :-)

Sword fighting!

I haven't put this on the email list, 'cause I'm not on it.

Fire grate
Ok, in the last few AGMs we’ve discussed replacing the soc fire grate and have agreed we need a new one. This year’s action was to get prices and ideas for new fire grates.
I’ve come up with some suggestions:Collapse )

I’m leaning towards option 3a, but what do people think?

Micky's set up the following e-mail addresses for the Neville committee:

Use these addresses to contact the committee instead of individuals' personal e-mail addresses. That way the e-mail will always go to whoever is currently holding that post.

Please send general enquiries to chair@nevillehousehold.org.uk

EVENT E-MAILS: events@nevillehousehold.org.uk

Micky's also set up events@nevillehousehold.org.uk which will automatically forward e-mails sent to this address to the chair, captain, archery captain and transport co-ordinator.

Please use the events e-mail address to reply to event reminders and to send any information about events e.g. attendance, kit requests, cancellations, enquiries about specific events etc.

Some of you may have seen or heard reports of a medieval re-enactor from one of the other groups being injured this weekend. It provides a stark reminder that although rare, sometimes accidents do happen and reinforces why the steps we take to make sure we are safe, are so important.

The only information I have is on: http://www.dawnduellists.org.uk/news/pressrelease20050628.php. The group have asked that, out of respect for all parties involved, re-enactors do not speculate about what happened or fuel the gossip that inevitably follows an incident like this.

There has been some national press interest. I understand that journalists are looking for re-enactors to speak to and are trawling web forums and live journals for leads / information. In the unlikely event of the Nevs receiving any enquiries about this, then please do not make any comment or confirm any statement made. Take their name and company before asking them to speak to the Dawn Duelists as the Nevilles were not at the event and are not able comment. We should then pass on the detials to the Dawn Duelists.

The person acting as the point of contact for this has requested the following:

Do not engage in chitchat outwith our group of friends and ALWAYS check if the person who calls is from the press.
Do not give out names of anyone who was there.
Do not admit or deny anything - even if they tell you word for word - do not give them evidence.
Do not say anything about the injury or accident
Do not give out contact details
Do be polite - they are doing their job and there is no need to be rude.
Do be careful to write down their name and newspaper. then we can check for mis-quotes etc and put right any misleading stories.
Don't worry if you get a call - but you do need to be careful in case you say something by accident.

so. ive never been to an event before, but i recently saw one on television and it looks amazing.

I studied 17th century and russian 20th century history for my as level. and ive been bought up by some one whos quite into history [went to lots of roman sites, and watch a lot of time team].

but i dont have the most amazing amount of knowledge about every era, so i think these sorts of events would be amazing to go to.

also as i am studying photography, I would love to come along and photograph an event.

who would i contact about doing so?
Would i wear a costume as well?
i hand sew everything i make, would that be alright?
whens the next event.

Im so amazingly clueless.

any infomation would be amazing

Holdenby - the aftermath
Dear Nevilles.
I would just like to say how proud I was to be a member of this group this weekend.
As ever there was displayed the usual high level of discipline, cooperation, entheusiasm and commitment along with the monster amounts of friendliness and care that makes being with you all a pleasure.
But that when around us groups of "hardened re-enactors" were giving up and going home due to the wet, we stayed and put on the show, fielding as many combatants for the final display as the hosting group, fielding more water carriers than anyone else (all of them in fact), that you bothered to go and do something while still having enough of a presence to keep the camp occupied (and supporting the smoke machine), I was touched and proud of you all.
I will not knock the other groups that went home (apart from the clarences who mock Bez for not turning up to their practices but who leave him to be the only Clarence to take the field when it is a bit wet and cold - good one Bez) as it is only a hobby and not a job, but I am glad that we didn't..
I thank you also for displaying a willingness to help other people push vans and cars that got stuck in the mud.
You guys rock.
or mud depending on your perspective.
